20 DAYS UNTIL EAGLES START REAL SEASON, AND 2ND-TEAMERS PLAYED LIKE STARTERS
By Art Beitchman
The Eagles beat the Browns in Cleveland Sunday afternoon 21-20, winning with essentially 2nd- and 3rd-string players with all starters on offense and defense watching on the sidelines.
There were no injuries to key players and we’re one week closer to the opener in Detroit. on Sept. 11.
RB Boston Scott looked good on the first drive racking up 33 yards, plus a TD to give the Birds the early lead 7-0.
Backup QB Gardner Minshew looked sharp throwing for 142 yards — he looks ready for the opener in a few weeks.
Former Olympian Devon Allen hauled in a 55 yard pass in the second half to cap off the scoring, giving the Birds the one point win.
The backups played well, especially the offensive line, giving the coaching staff confidence they can carry on if an injury pops up as it often does during a long NFL season.
