EAGLES GREAT OFFSEASON STARTS PAYING DIVIDENDS THIS SUNDAY
By Max Harper
Here’s a snapshot of the Eagles as they prepare for Sunday’s season opener against the Lions:
2021 record: 9-8
Key additions: WR A.J. Brown, DT Jordan Davis, CB James Bradberry, CB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, LB Haason Reddick
Key departures: LB Alex Singleton, S Rodney McLeod
The Birds invested heavily to ensure quarterback Jalen Hurts thrives in a make-or-break season.
Hurts ranked 28th in completion percentage but led all quarterbacks in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, in part because of a subpar receiving corps.
Enter A.J. Brown, who racked up two 1,000-yard seasons in three seasons with the Tennessee Titans and now becomes WR 1 for Hurts.
The Eagles were among the most improved teams in the league last season but won just one game against a team that finished over .500 (in Week 11 against the New Orleans Saints).
Figure them for a hugely improved pass defense with James Bradberry and Darius Slay locking down the corners and the Philadelphia-area nativeHaason Reddick added to the pass rush.
