Once again the Phillies used great starting pitching from ace Zack Wheeler to shut out the San Diego Padres 2-0 in the opening game of the National League Championship Series.
Wheeler went 7 innings giving up only one hit as the Phils continue to shut down opponents in these 2022 playoffs.
Bryce Harper’s solo home run in the 4th inning and Kyle Schwarber’s 488-foot blast in the 6th were the only runs the Phillies would need to go up 1-0 in the series.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson went to Seranthony Dominguez and Jose Alvarado for the 8th and 9th innings to preserve the victory in this crucial 1st game which amazingly leaves the Phillies 3 wins away from a trip to the 2022 World Series.
