THE ROAD HAS BEEN VERY, VERY GOOD TO THE PHILLIES!
By Art Beitchman
The Phillies have been on quite a roll after squeaking into the National League playoffs the last week of the season.
All they’ve done is go into St. Louis, knocking the Cardinals out of the playoffs.
Advancing to the NLDS, yesterday they took game 1 from the favored defending World Series champion Braves 7-6.
The Phils big-money players showed and did damage — Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos did the heavy lifting with 3 hits a piece in the middle of the lineup.
And that was one day after Phils management gave manager Rob Thomson a new 2-year contract as he did a remarkable job turning around a team that underachieved the first couple of months into a winner.
Thomson deserves every accolade he gets for his leadership and calmness through a really rough start to the season.
Even better, the Phillies are lined up with their front of the rotation starters Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola to pich games 2 and 3 of this crucial playoff series.
The series shifts to Philadelphia Friday at CBP for the 1st playoff game here in 11 years.
