WHEELER’S RETURN WILL HELP SOLVE PHILS PITCHING WOES
By Art Beitchman
As the Phillies enter the stretch drive to make the NL playoffs in September, the starting pitching the last two games has become alarming. They were rocked in consecutive games 13-7 and 12-3 last night by a Arizona Diamondbacks team with a 61-67 record.
It’s a bad time for the starters to get bombed.
They are already without ace Zack Wheeler, who’s nursing forearm tendonitis and due to get back soon to help this playoff run.
Starters have been a strength this season, but the Phils are still jockeying with the Padres and Brewers for a wild card berth.
They put Bailey Falter on the hill tonight in Arizona hoping to stop the slide with a much needed win before going to San Francisco for a three game set with the Giants over the weekend.
